'Glee' 3-D Movie Coming to Theaters This Summer

'Glee' 3-D Movie Coming to Theaters This Summer

Watch out for flying slushies! Glee fans looking for a summer fix will be happy to learn that a 3-D concert film, featuring members of the New Directions, is heading to theaters in August. Glee Live! 3D! will be a big-screen adaptation of the Glee concert tour -- you know, just in case you didn't get those front-row seats you were hoping for.

"This tour was all about going out and performing for our amazing fans who have supported our show from the beginning, but due to the limited time we had to travel during our hiatus, there were only so many cities we could get to before we had to resume work on the television series," series creator Ryan Murphy said in a statement announcing the project.

"We knew that not every fan who wanted to attend a concert would get that opportunity," Murphy continued. "Now, thanks to our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film, we'll be able to bring the concert experience to movie theaters across the country in full three-dimensional glory. We promise every passionate 'Gleek' a cinematic experience that will have them singing and dancing in the aisles."

According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie will be directed by Fame's Kevin Tancharoen. EW tells us that the songs will include the Glee classic "Don't Stop Believin'," as well as newer numbers like "I'm a Slave 4 U" (performed by Heather Morris in the Britney Spears episode) and "Teenage Dream" (memorably sung a capella by Darren Criss and the Warblers).

It's a little unclear whether the movie will be a straight recording of footage from this year's upcoming tour, or if they'll work in parts of last year's sold-out tour. But we have no doubt they'll use the expanded cast from this year's tour, which will include Criss, Ashley Fink (Lauren Zizes), Chord Overstreet and some or all of the Warblers, in addition to Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron and the core cast of favorites. Cast members who won't be appearing in the live show include Matthew Morrison and the other "grown-ups" -- this one's strictly for the kids. Or rather, the twentysomethings who play the kids.

Given the 3-D element, we'll expect to see some extra-fancy dance moves, especially from Morris and the neglected Harry Shum. That alone would be worth the price of admission!
